Fantascapes: my first green whale fantascape

June 1, 2008 · 6 Comments

Two exceptionally talented artists, Susan http://susancornelis.wordpress.com/ &

Miki http://mikiaboom.wordpress.com/ started a game. They did alternatively (or simulgtaneously?) published so called “fantascapes” (landscapes from other world, fantasy landscapes) on their blogs… They gave me the itch to play too… and since, sometimes, I do also landscapes which aren’t from this world, I asked them permission and VOILA! my first fantascape… One with a green whale… Don’t ask me why a whale and why a green one… There must be some freudian-shout explanation to that… Hope they (and you, whom read this) like it…

This is a most interesting “whale”! Perhaps he is a beached whale since he seems to be in a garden. I particularly love his little hand, almost in prayer mode. I think if he would open his eyes he would see a most beautiful world around him.

I was wondering where they are, your fantascapes!
This is great to finally dive into them… wonderful one, I so much love the colors and the craziness!
By the way, Danu, as we started the fantascapes, the theme was much concreter, and in fact we almost called it “La Danse du Printemps”, which is the reason why my fantascapes have all dancing trees! I was painting blossoming almond trees at that time and susan gave me the idea to try to make figures out of them while I was quite bored with the normal representation. Later on I varied the theme of the fantascapes, and started to make some “fantaseas” (you will understand the word play on “fantasy” and “fantascapes” and “sea”, I guess :-) ).
I am not even sure that i have published them by the way! Anyway your painting would wonderfully fit in the “Fantaseas” series!
    I made Fantamountains too…

Well, Susan, I don’t think it is a beached whale… the bottom of the sea looks quite like in Danu’s painting, when you take the blue filter away… I dove a lot (with bottles and stuff) and it was exactly like in your painting, Danu, at least it is what I saw. Except the whale, I didn’t see him…

oh, miki, for me it’s much more simpler… I’ve just tried a new color (I already told you about it, I think: the burn quinacridone orange) and wa sfooling a bit around… and fantascapes (I understood it much more a s a contraption ? of fantasy and lanscapes, paysages fantastiques…)

I wish a could dive too… another thing I would probably never do otharwise than in my mind….)
